My son was tutored by Miss A for 14 months, from the start of year 5 through to October of year 6. Our main motivation for having our son tutored was to help with his English, as he is dyslexic and struggles in particular with story writing. Miss A was very flexible, not only with times and days of the sessions but also with what she was asked to focus on each week. Most weeks it was English, however she also worked on Maths, Arithmetic and Verbal and Non-verbal work. As the Entrance Exams drew closer she was instrumental in boosting my son’s confidence before he made his decision to sit the Exams. He passed the Grammar School exam, despite his difficulties with English.

My son always enjoyed attending the sessions, quite amazing as at home he found any English work to be completely abhorrent. We hope to resume his tutoring as he approaches Secondary, simply to boost his confidence and to continue to help develop his English skills.

Katy has been tutoring my son, Sam, in KS3 Science, for less than one term and he has moved from level 4c to level 5a - that's a jump of five levels.  With Katy's help, he now has a lot more confidence in the subject, which I think was the major problem, and is likely to go from strength to strength.  I'm so pleased with his progress, I wanted to thank Katy (and Select Tutors) by writing to let other people know.

Sarah began working with my 9 year old daughter F initially to support her in preparation for 11 plus exams. Unfortunately, F had had a couple of extra lessons through her school and this had resulted in her being very demoralised and upset as she had just been given past papers and essentially told to get on with it.  The net result of this was that she couldn’t do the questions, as she had never seen them before, and became very upset.

When I employed Sarah my motivation was not to get F through her 11 plus, but to give her back her confidence and assist her to feel that she could if she chose to take the exam and do her best.

What has impressed me most about Sarah’s teaching is that she has sought to really get to know F, and has built a fantastic relationship with her.  The outcome of this is that F has survived the 11 plus system and will start at Grammar school in September.

We made the decision, post the 11 plus, to retain Sarah as F needed to make a smooth transition.  This support has been invaluable and we have watched F blossom into a confident, and once again happy child who is so looking forward now to moving on to her next challenge.
